What do we know about food aid?

About 2 million French people rely on food aid to feed themselves on a daily basis. As a result of the crisis, this figure has reached record levels, according to advocacy groups. Two studies (Abena and E3A) show that this aid is insufficient to guarantee a decent standard of nutrition for the population. Recipients of food aid can spend only 2.6 euros per person per day on average. Their health suffers as a result and is described as “very critical” by experts: overweight and obesity are two to three times more common, along with anemia and nutritional deficiencies.
