Establishment of mobile pediatric medical stations
To strengthen response capabilities in the event of exceptional public health situations involving large numbers of children, the Ministry of Health has decided to establish a new response mechanism known as the "mobile pediatric health unit." This decision follows recommendations from the Advisory Committee on "Operational Health Management and Resources," led by Santé publique France.
Mobile medical stations (PSM) are established at healthcare facilities that serve as SAMU headquarters and operate SMUR units; their purpose is to bolster the emergency medical response capacity for treating victims during exceptional health crises. This new resource complements the existing response system.
Distributed evenly across mainland France and the overseas territories, each pediatric MHS must be capable of:
the care of 25 pediatric patients (under the age of 10, excluding newborns) for 6 hours,
to have versatile resources tailored to pediatrics, taking into account the state of the art, changes in product usage within healthcare facilities, as well as new exceptional health situations.
This pediatric reinforcement unit is intended for regional use and must be deployable to the disaster site or, if necessary, to the hospitals treating the victims within less than half an hour.
