CMGF 2022: Santé publique France is participating in the 15th French Congress of General Practice, March 24–26

Santé publique France is participating in the 15th French Congress of General Practice (CMGF), organized by the College of General Practice, on March 24, 25, and 26, 2022, at the Palais des Congrès in Paris. On this occasion, Geneviève Chêne, Executive Director, will take part in the opening ceremony alongside her partners.

CMGF 2022: Two sessions co-organized by Santé publique France

As part of the conference, the Organizing and Scientific Committees offer innovative sessions each year featuring updates on medical and scientific information, as well as ways to improve daily practice. A strong emphasis is placed on discussion and debate. Among the sessions scheduled for the CMGF 2022 program, two are co-organized with Santé publique France:

  • Session: “Older Adults and Frailty,” Thursday, March 24, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Objective: to raise awareness among physicians regarding the identification and prevention of frailty as people age.

  • Session: “Current Developments in Antibiotic Resistance Prevention in Primary Care,” Friday, March 25, 2022, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Objective: to raise awareness among physicians about antibiotic resistance in community practice and promote prescribing support tools.

Initiated by and for general practitioners, the CMGF brings together in one place all stakeholders in the field of general medicine: general medicine specialists—both future and experienced—experts from other medical disciplines, and representatives from health and research institutions. Nearly 4,000 people are expected to attend the plenary lectures and parallel sessions, visit the exhibition, and network with peers.

By participating in this new edition of the CMGF, Santé publique France aims to share public health challenges and discuss practices and needs.

Geneviève CHÊNE, Director General of Santé publique France, will participate in the opening ceremony on March 24 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. during a panel discussion alongside Norbert IFRAH, President of the National Cancer Institute, Dominique LE GULUDEC, President of the Board of the High Authority for Health; Dominique MARTIN, National Medical Advisor to the National Health Insurance Fund; Christelle RATIGNIER-CARBONNEIL, Director General of the National Agency for Medicines and Health Products Safety, and Paul FRAPPÉ, President of the Congress Organizing Committee and President of the College of General Medicine.

Come visit us at our booth!

We will also have a booth at the conference where you can find our resources and tools designed to support physicians in their practice and help them expand their knowledge.

The General Practitioner: A Key Partner

As a healthcare professional, the general practitioner is a key player in public health who knows the patient, their family, and their environment. They have a comprehensive and holistic view of the patient. As such, they are a key partner of the Agency in the areas of surveillance and prevention.

In the context of surveillance, general practitioners participate in several ways, such as:

The SOS Médecins Network

Since 2006, the SOS Médecins network has been one of the four sources of the SurSaUD® health surveillance system for emergencies and deaths. This so-called syndromic surveillance system enables, through the daily reporting of healthcare utilization data (notably SOS Médecins medical procedures and emergency department visits), the generation of reactive indicators aimed at contributing to Santé publique France’s health monitoring and epidemiological surveillance missions.

We are on either side of a vast network, working to serve the health of the population. General practitioners are on the front lines, and their role as sentinels is essential to us. Our collaboration is vital to preserving everyone’s health

Geneviève Chêne, Director General of Santé publique France

Santé publique France monitors approximately fifty epidemiological indicators daily using data from SOS Médecins. These indicators contribute in particular to the monitoring of seasonal epidemics (influenza, bronchiolitis, gastroenteritis, etc.) and to the rapid assessment of health impacts in the event of a health alert (e.g., monitoring the COVID-19 epidemic and its impact on mental health, outbreaks of foodborne illness, assessment of the impact of heat waves, etc.).

The Sentinelles Network

The Sentinelles Network is a research and surveillance network for primary care in metropolitan France. Created in 1984, it now consists of 1,314 private general practitioners (representing 2.1% of private general practitioners in metropolitan France) and 116 private pediatricians (representing 4.3% of private pediatricians in metropolitan France), all volunteers, distributed across metropolitan France.

This network contributes to surveillance activities, particularly in the field of infectious diseases (COVID-19, flu-like syndromes, Lyme disease, etc.), and conducts numerous clinical and epidemiological studies to better characterize diseases and their determinants.

Reportable Diseases

This system relies on the transmission of data regarding 36 diseases (32 of which require urgent intervention) by physicians and laboratory professionals (both private practice and hospital-based) to public health inspectors (MISP) and their colleagues at the Regional Health Agencies (ARS), as well as to epidemiologists at Santé publique France.

The analysis of this information enables the implementation of urgent interventions at the local, national, or international level; describes the number and characteristics of infected individuals to guide investigation, prevention, screening, and care efforts; and provides data for their evaluation.

Social marketing initiatives

Primary care physicians are also partners in all of our social marketing and prevention initiatives, such as No Smoking Month or Vaccination Week. We produce a range of resources to support them in their practice and disseminate essential prevention messages.

The Health Reserve

General practitioners also participate in the Health Reserve, with over 3,000 registered to date.

Santé publique France has been collaborating with the College of General Practitioners for several years. This collaboration led to the signing of a three-year partnership agreement in May 2021. It follows an initial agreement signed in 2017.
