HIV Testing in France, 2003–2015.
This article presents an overview, updated for 2015, of HIV testing activity in France at medical testing laboratories, based on data from the "LaboVIH" registry and rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) conducted as part of community-based screening initiatives. In 2015, 5.35 million (95% CI: [5.20–5.33]) HIV serology tests were performed, representing a 3% increase since 2013. Of these, 6% (approximately 327,000) were conducted anonymously and free of charge. The proportion of serological tests confirmed as positive per 1,000 tests performed was 1.9 among non-anonymous tests and 3.3 among anonymous tests. Rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) conducted by community organizations or prevention centers accounted for a much smaller number of tests (approximately 62,200 in 2015, stable compared to 2014), but with a higher positivity rate (7.7 positive results per 1,000 tests). Despite a slight increase in HIV testing activity in France, the number of confirmed positive serology results has stabilized. Anonymous serology tests and rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs), even though they account for only a minority of tests performed, have the advantage of reaching populations that are particularly at risk or who do not utilize conventional testing.
