The publication of key figures and more detailed information on occupational road traffic risks in France is intended to mobilize industry sectors, companies, employee representatives, employees themselves, and all stakeholders in the field of prevention to improve the way these risks are addressed. This five-page summary presents key figures (2022) on the causes of workplace fatalities in a dashboard format (infographics, tables, etc.). It aims to raise awareness among company stakeholders and improve preventive measures. It is the result of a collaboration between various ministries (Labor, Health, Interior), the CNAM, the MSA, Santé publique France, and the National Interministerial Observatory for Road Safety (ONISR). The compiled indicators on occupational road risk are derived from the analysis of compensation data for workplace accidents and commuting accidents from the two main social security schemes mentioned above (the general scheme and the scheme for employees affiliated with the Mutualité sociale agricole), as well as data on traffic accidents resulting in bodily injury collected directly at the scene of the accident by law enforcement agencies and centralized by the ONISR. Statistical analysis of the causes and circumstances of work-related traffic accidents is an essential component for deepening our understanding of the risk, establishing an accurate diagnosis, and consequently guiding prevention policy. The key findings on occupational road risk indicate that each year, occupational road accidents (combining commuting accidents and work-related accidents) are the second leading cause of workplace fatalities in France. 485 people were killed during work-related travel in 2022. In addition to fatalities, these accidents can have serious consequences for employees’ health. They also disrupt business operations. This risk is thus identified as one of the priority risks in the fourth Occupational Health Plan (2021–2025) and as a priority in road safety policy.
