WHO's "Age-Friendly Cities" Program: In Lyon, Older Adults Voice Their Expectations.
The City of Lyon is implementing the WHO’s “Age-Friendly Cities” program, launched in 2005. Thirty-three cities in twenty-two countries have developed a common approach aimed at adapting the city to the needs of older adults. Lyon is the first French city to have surveyed 400 older adults, gathered in focus groups, on the advantages and disadvantages they experience in daily urban life. Despite the efforts undertaken, 60% of the older adults surveyed feel they are at a disadvantage in society. The survey made it possible to compile a list of older adults’ requests, which will form the basis of a plan.
