Road safety.
500,000 deaths and 10 million injuries—these are the global figures for traffic accidents. Developing countries are particularly hard hit due to a lack of resources for the effective prevention measures that exist in countries with higher levels of motorization. France, for example, has seen its figures drop from 16,600 fatalities and 388,000 injuries in 1970 to 9,000 fatalities and 185,000 injuries today. However, certain at-risk groups (men, young people, etc.) and dangerous behaviors (drinking, speeding, disregarding traffic laws, etc.) still remain. Drivers can, however, minimize risks by following certain safety rules (wearing a helmet, buckling up, etc.) and obeying traffic laws.
