Bronchiolitis: Update as of September 26, 2023.

Key Points

  • Bronchiolitis activity among children under two years of age is at a low level in mainland France as well as in the overseas departments and regions.

  • In mainland France, no region is on alert for bronchiolitis. Guadeloupe and Martinique have entered the pre-epidemic phase.

  • The increase in bronchiolitis activity observed in mainland France continues across all syndromic surveillance indicators: for SOS Médecins medical visits, for emergency room visits, and for hospitalizations following emergency room visits for bronchiolitis. The increases are comparable to those observed during the same period in the previous two years, indicating another early onset of bronchiolitis-related activity.

  • The detection rate of RSV in nasopharyngeal swabs from all age groups in hospitals is very low (<1%).
