COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Île-de-France Region as of July 21, 2022.

Key Points

In week 28 in Île-de-France, SARS-CoV-2 transmission was declining. However, virological indicators remained at a high level, and the number of hospital deaths continued to rise.

  • The regional incidence rate stood at 819 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and decreased for the first time after six consecutive weeks of increases. The testing rate followed the same trend.

  • The positivity rate (25.2%) showed a decline in Week 28 and decreased for the first time after seven consecutive weeks of increases.

  • The BA.4 and BA.5 sublineages of the Omicron variant have been predominant in Île-de-France for the past 5 weeks.

  • Use of primary care and emergency services for “suspected COVID-19” declined after several weeks of increases.

  • The number of new hospitalizations and the number of new admissions to intensive care units were decreasing. The number of hospital deaths related to COVID-19 continued to rise.

  • The number of new COVID-19 cases reported by healthcare facilities, as well as the total number of new reported cases, was decreasing.

  • Given that SARS-CoV-2 is still circulating, vaccination (and booster shots) for all eligible individuals remains essential and must be combined with strict adherence to other preventive measures.
