COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of September 15, 2022

Key Points

In week 36, virological indicators were declining in French Guiana. The incidence rate stood at 26 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and the effective R value was 0.71 [0.59–0.85]. This trend was observed across all regions of French Guiana. Hospital indicators also reflected this situation, with 6 new hospitalizations across all departments and none in intensive care.

As schools reopened, the positivity rate was declining across all age groups except for those under 20, where the positivity rate remained stable but at a level equivalent to that observed over the past two months (7% in Week 36 vs. 6% in Week 35).

Among the samples screened in French Guiana, 100% tested positive for mutations carried by the Omicron variant. Among the samples sequenced over the past four weeks, 73% were BA5, which is therefore the predominant sublineage in French Guiana.
