COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of November 10, 2021
Key Points
The decline in the incidence rate (adjusted for the November 1 holiday) continued in S44, falling by 8% to reach 157 per 100,000 inhabitants; the unadjusted incidence rate was 133 per 100,000 inhabitants (-22%). This decline was observed across the entire country.
The effective R stood at 0.75, stable compared to the previous week. The adjusted testing rate increased slightly in Week 44 (+18%), while the positivity rate reached 6%, a decrease of 2 percentage points, close to the 5% alert threshold.
The incidence rate fell by 25% on the island of Cayenne, 13% in Savanes, and 19% on the western coast
The trend was also downward in the Oyapock and Maroni sectors.
Furthermore, hospital indicators were all improving: hospitalizations across all departments were down by nearly 30%, with 37 hospitalizations in S44. At the same time, intensive care admissions were also down, with only 3 intensive care admissions last week across the entire territory.
With 5 new deaths, the total number of deaths recorded during the fourth wave reached 122.
Vaccination coverage continues to increase, reaching 34.2% for a full course and 39.4% for one dose among those aged 12 and older. The increase in vaccination coverage observed in Week 44 remains limited. Booster shots (third dose) are also beginning; this booster helps maintain good protection against severe forms of the disease among the elderly.
