Key Points

  • The number of reported cases of active tuberculosis was 278 in 2020, 11% lower than in 2019 (314) and 6% lower than in 2018 (297). Nine tuberculosis-related deaths were recorded in 2018.

  • The reporting rate was 5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 2020, down from 2019 (5.6) and also from 2018 (5.3). The highest reported rates were observed in Marne, Bas-Rhin, and Meurthe-et-Moselle, with 7.4, 7.1, and 7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, respectively.

  • In 2020, the reporting rate was nearly twice as high among men as among women, with 6.4 and 3.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, respectively.

  • Between 2019 and 2020, the proportion of cases living in group housing decreased (-35%), but the number of homeless cases increased (9 cases compared to 3 in 2019).

  • The percentage of cases reported during the 2015–2018 period who completed treatment 12 months after diagnosis was 76%, and thus did not meet the World Health Organization (WHO) target of 90%.

  • Among cases reported during the 2015–2018 period, 4% were lost to follow-up after 12 months of treatment.
