A smoke-free workplace cannot be imposed; it requires support
In the Champagne-Ardenne region, the network of health education committees spent three years training nurses at local companies in tobacco prevention and providing methodological support. Spotlight on Lecico/Sarreguemines Sanitaires, which decided to become a smoke-free workplace in 2005—nearly two years before the ban took effect on February 1, 2007—and implemented support for employees who wanted to quit smoking. This type of initiative requires ongoing commitment and employee buy-in, emphasize the company nurse and the prevention officer from the local health education committee.
