Suicidal Attempts
Since 2020, the number of emergency room visits due to suicide attempts has been steadily increasing in the Centre-Val de Loire region, reaching a peak of 2,660 visits in 2023 among those aged 11 and older. Between January 1, 2024, and July 31, 2024, 1,604 emergency room visits due to suicide attempts have already been reported by the region’s emergency services.
The proportion of emergency room visits in the first half of 2024 has remained stable since 2022 (around 0.4%).
Suicidal Thoughts
Emergency room visits for suicidal ideation, both in number and as a percentage of total activity, have been steadily increasing since 2020. In 2022, 341 visits for suicidal ideation were recorded in the region’s emergency departments, representing 0.05% of total activity.
In 2023, the number of emergency department visits remained stable compared to the previous year (336 visits). The number of emergency department visits in 2024 (data as of July 31) was 279 among those aged 11 and older, accounting for 0.07% of total activity.
