Parent-Child Support Centers in Martinique: Supporting Parents, Building Children’s Self-Confidence [Interview].

One in two families in Martinique is a single-parent household. The six parent-child drop-in centers in the region welcome families with children under the age of 6 free of charge. The centers are open spaces with no structured activities. Children explore and develop their independence in a safe environment, accompanied by their parents. The center helps children and parents socialize in preparation for separation when the child starts school. Since the program has proven effective, about ten more centers are expected to open by 2022, funded and managed by the family allowance fund. Point of attention: ensuring that families who need it most can benefit from this program.
