Healthcare and prevention: a key tool for reducing inequality.

Access to healthcare and preventive care is one of the social determinants of health. While their role in improving public health is debated, the fact remains that universal access to healthcare and preventive care is a measure of social equity. Conversely, as Pierre Lombrail demonstrates, if there are difficulties in accessing primary or secondary care, the system can create or exacerbate inequalities.
