Methodological note. Organization of surveillance and description of reporting to the French Institute for Public Health Surveillance (InVS)

This methodological note describes how AIDS surveillance operates in France. This surveillance system, established in 1982, has been based on mandatory reporting since 1986. Reporting is based on the WHO/CDC definition of AIDS, established in September 1982 and amended in June 1985 and August 1987, and subsequently on the 1993 European definition.
