Lyon: We inspect housing conditions and determine whether the occupants' health is at risk [Interview].

In Lyon, the urban sanitation department has trained one of its technicians to become an indoor environmental consultant. Based on a doctor’s referral, this consultant inspects the homes of people with medical conditions to determine whether their living environment is a contributing factor to their diagnosed illness. More broadly, the urban health department collaborates with the courts, the regional health agency (ARS), and the family allowance fund (CAF) to combat substandard housing and compel landlords to carry out repairs. One of its primary objectives is to support highly vulnerable individuals so they can remain in their homes or be rehoused if necessary.
