The Local Mental Health Council: A New Tool for Empowering Service Users?
Over the past decade, local mental health councils have been established in cities across France. To date, more than 100 cities have established such councils, and about 20 are considering doing so. These councils generally bring together professionals, elected officials, and service users. At the local level, they carry out initiatives to address mental health needs (access to and retention of housing, social integration, etc.) and are undoubtedly a framework for fostering patient empowerment.
