Health Mediation in Ikambere: A Researchers' Perspective

Health mediation is a cornerstone for enhancing people’s autonomy and ability to take charge of their own health. Taking into account the communities to which these individuals belong and creating a bridge between them and the healthcare system contributes to this improvement. The Ikambere association creates this bridge, on the one hand, by enabling women facing similar challenges to share their experiences, and on the other hand, by providing them with practical knowledge and skills. During interviews with the researchers, the women supported by Ikambere expressed how much seeing other women who had gone through the same hardships—isolation, rejection—and who had overcome them had changed their relationship with the disease.
