The complexity of the concept of consent extends far beyond the realm of sexuality, and this special issue provides an opportunity to discuss consent in the healthcare relationship and in several other areas. The aim here is to understand the extent to which consent, in general, contributes to the process of "weaving social relationships," including in the healthcare sector.
